{"id":239749,"date":"2016-08-16T12:26:45","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T12:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=239749"},"modified":"2016-08-16T12:26:45","modified_gmt":"2016-08-16T12:26:45","slug":"npps-handling-of-afoko-proves-its-competence-hamid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/npps-handling-of-afoko-proves-its-competence-hamid\/","title":{"rendered":"NPP&#8217;s handling of Afoko proves its competence &#8211; Hamid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson for the opposition New Patriotic Party\u2019s (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, believes the NPP\u2019s firm and constitutional handling of the recent internal suspensions, is an indication of the party\u2019s ability to govern.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamid\u2019s argument is that, the NPP is a party anchored by institutions and procedure, not personalities, hence is a more competent option for governance than the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Oq9jWyITLip13FQ7GHQKDiN4wFyNhsvN&#8221;]Speaking on the <strong>Point Blank<\/strong> segment of <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, he advanced that \u201cIf the NPP has shown itself to be a party that will let the rod fall on whoever falls foul of its laws and procedure, then I think that is a party that we can entrust the destiny of Ghana\u2026 an NPP government will be a government that will let the law apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamid was responding to the NDC and its flagbearer, President John Mahama\u2019s <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/14\/ghelections-npp-specialized-in-suspensions-divisions-kofi-adams\/\">criticism of the NPP<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as a party intolerant of dissenting views.<\/p>\n<p>During the NDC\u2019s official campaign launch, President Mahama accused the NPP of unnecessarily punishing its members who speak against issues within the party, in reference to the suspended NPP Chair, Paul Afoko who had his suit <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/15\/afoko-loses-suit-against-npp\/\">challenging his dismissal<\/a><\/strong><\/span> from the party dismissed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Paul-Afoko-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-239515\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Paul-Afoko-1.jpg\" alt=\"Paul-Afoko (1)\" width=\"599\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Hamid believes the handling of Afoko\u2019s suspension \u201cis a reason why the Ghanaian people should vote for the NPP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe major distinction between human societies and animal society is the existence of law. That is what distinguishes us as human beings from lower animals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our party, it\u2019s about institutions and not human beings and so when the human beings fall foul of this law, and try to destabilize the institutional workings of our constitutional structures, the law applies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>NDC\u2019s hypocrisy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hamid proceeded to turn the tables on\u00a0the NDC, accusing them of rather breeding a culture of intolerance given its handling of same in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am alleging that the NDC is the intolerant party in this country because it is the party that when Dr. Obed Asamoah, Frances Asiam and Bede Zeden etc. dissented and spoke their minds against happenings in their congress in Koforidua, they were actually chased out of their party with horsewhips.
