The Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has rejected results from recent surveys predicting a win for the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo, saying President John Dramani Mahama will most likely hand over the baton of leadership in January 2021, by which time he would have served his two-terms.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday, Dr. Boamah said the outcome of the surveys are not reflective of the real situation on the ground, saying the governing National Democratic Congress has accelerated the development of the country, compared to the NPP’s previous administration.

He said President Mahama’s efforts will be rewarded by Ghanaians with a second term.

His comments follow report from the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU), which among other things suggested that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Nana Addo, could win the December polls if the Ghanaian economy continues to decline.

[contextly_sidebar id=”7LZZXyFvfdZEzi2oGQ5stCbNVVAz2Fq0″]A survey from the Center for Democratic Development, (CDD), has also revealed that seven out of ten Ghanaians believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

But Dr. Boamah argued that President Mahama and the “NDC will not lose in [the] 2016 elections. The NDC will win in the 2016 elections by the grace of God and with the support of the good people of Ghana.”

“The Economic Intelligence Unit must understand that Ghanaians reward hard work, Ghanaians know the government that has worked for the prospects that their own report indicated are bright.”

The Communications Minister noted that “Ghanaians will not, I believe, change horses in the middle of the river when they know this is the particular horse, not an elephant, with an umbrella that has ensured that going forward our GDP is going to be 8% plus and in subsequent years, 7 percent plus…”

“President Mahama’s political career, insha Allah, by the Grace of God, with the support of the sovereign people of Ghana, as president, will be terminated on January 6, 2021. This is the president’s last campaign which will secure him his second and final term,” he added.

He also explained that government is initiating a number of projects in every sector including health, education, roads among others, adding that they are gradually transforming the economy hence the need to be given another term in office.

“We will try as much possible to stay on the path of projecting our message. Just in this green book, we have enough achievements to project to the good people of Ghana.”
