{"id":236801,"date":"2016-08-05T09:23:42","date_gmt":"2016-08-05T09:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=236801"},"modified":"2016-08-05T09:23:42","modified_gmt":"2016-08-05T09:23:42","slug":"6th-chale-wote-street-art-festival-set-for-aug-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/6th-chale-wote-street-art-festival-set-for-aug-15\/","title":{"rendered":"6th Chale Wote Street Art festival set for Aug 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sixth edition of the Chale Wote Street Art festival will grace the streets of James Town in its colorful splendor on August 15 to 21, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s festival will mark the fifth anniversary of Chale Wote\u2019s infusion of art, music and dance music in Accra\u2019s oldest urban fishing community.<\/p>\n<p>After 2015\u2019s well received, \u201cAfrican Electronics\u201d, the motif for the 2016 festival is \u201cSpirit Robot\u201d geared towards embracing the power rooted in humanity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/CHALE-WOTE-2016-Official-Poster-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-236879\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/CHALE-WOTE-2016-Official-Poster-1.jpg\" alt=\"CHALE WOTE 2016 Official Poster (1)\" width=\"604\" height=\"781\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 2016 edition has been expanded to a full week of activities will feature more than 200 artists showcasing a wide array of mediums and projects.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be some international spice with more than 30 artists coming from 10 different countries.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers explained that the idea behind Spirit Robot \u201crefers to the energetic ability of festival participants to create a new encounter with reality that is entirely of our choosing and construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They have promised a vibrant mix of visual art, photography, films, fashion, mixed media, interventions, installations, live music, dance, panels, discussions, tours, food and more to patrons.<\/p>\n<p>More details on the 2016 edition can be found <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/CHALE-WOTE-2016-Official-Press-Release-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Chale Wote, slowly becoming a Mecca of Ghanaian art and culture, is produced by ACCRA [dot] ALT in association with annual collaborators, REDD Kat Pictures, the Foundation for Contemporary Art Ghana (FCA), Attukwei Art Foundation and Dr. Monk.<\/p>\n<p>Partners for this year\u2019s Chale Wote include <strong>Citi FM<\/strong>, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Gallery 1957, Untamed Empire, Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Twist n Locs Salon, and the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The sixth edition of the Chale Wote Street Art festival will grace the streets of James Town in its colorful splendor on August 15 to 21, 2016.
