The Electoral Commission had announced that persons who have not yet been\u00a0registered to vote can do so on Friday, August 19 and August 26 in the continuous registration exercise.<\/p>\n
The EC made the announcement at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee\u00a0(IPAC)\u00a0meeting on Wednesday August 3.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”zV73P94OsGID4UBnFVNE763tdItFFszr”]The political parties had earlier reached an agreement with the Electoral Commission (EC) to use the continuous registration process to register eligible voters\u00a0who were unable to take part in the recent limited registration exercise.<\/p>\n
Most observers and some parties had called for the extension of the limited registration exercise by the EC following reports that several Ghanaians could not have their names included in the voters’ roll before the May 8 deadline.<\/p>\n
The EC however, dismissed those calls, arguing that the exercise had been successful with over 90 percent of the targeted\u00a01.2 million eligible voters were registered.<\/p>\n
The acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu said at the time:\u00a0\u201cIf we are able to finalize the modalities for continuous registration which we are looking at, and making sure that it conforms with the C.I in order to ensure that the timelines with the exhibition, the timelines with the provisional register and the final register conforms with it, then it will be clear for each and every one in order to ensure that we have a successful electioneering.\u201d<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo added that following the end of the limited registration exercise, the opportunity provided for eligible voters to register in the continuous exercise was most welcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince it is continuous registration and registration is not compulsory, it is voluntary, people can decide to come and register. So we believe that once an opportunity is granted for limited registration, everybody has the opportunity to go and register at the registration center,” he said.<\/p>\n
