A group calling itself the Women of Faith and Substance has demanded the immediate resignation of Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur for signing the petition which called for the President to pardon the convicted Montie 3 trio.<\/p>\n
The group has described the Minister\u2019s actions as disappointing and heart wrenching.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”evB74HLcwzkhXBLOgga9lRAzHL1skBdq”]According to the group , the Minister\u2019s actions undermines the powers of Chief Justice, Georgina Wood and the presiding judge on the case, Justice Sophia Akuffo.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News, Spokesperson of the group, Gifty Oware, questioned the motive behind Nana Oye Lithur\u2019s decision to sign the petition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Gender Minister could go to the extent of signing, asking the President to release those 3 from custody. We are asking if the Gender minister is there for the reason of political bias or if she is there to make sure that we the ones in the society are protected?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Spokesperson also called on other women’s groups to join in their call for the Gender Minister\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe woman should resign and we are calling on other women\u2019s groups to also join in this call,\u201d she exclaimed.<\/p>\n
This reaction comes on the back of the decision of some women in government to sign the petition, including Education Minister, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Ofodu-Adjare, amongst others.<\/p>\n
Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe were sentenced to serve four months in jail after threatening to kill judges.<\/p>\n
