{"id":235474,"date":"2016-07-30T11:00:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-30T11:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=235474"},"modified":"2016-07-30T11:00:22","modified_gmt":"2016-07-30T11:00:22","slug":"koku-anyidoho-to-sue-bawumia-over-bloated-register-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/koku-anyidoho-to-sue-bawumia-over-bloated-register-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Koku Anyidoho to sue Bawumia over &#8216;bloated&#8217; register claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to sue the Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for attempting to mislead the State with claims he was in possession of an electoral register full of Togolese nationals.<\/p>\n<p>According to Koku Anyidoho, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia deceived the Electoral Commission (EC) when he said the party had some <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/18\/about-80000-togolese-are-in-ghanas-voters-register-bawumia\/\">evidence to show<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that some 76,000 Togolese had their names on the country\u2019s electoral register.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;cRPHPNEDLlAmh7tCgtXDgTDHAl1l9h8X&#8221;]Rekindling the sentiment that led the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to call for the NPP Running Mate&#8217;s <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/01\/06\/arrest-bawumia-over-claims-of-76000-togolese-on-voters-register-ndc\/\">arrest<\/a><\/span><\/strong> over same, Koku Anyidoho\u00a0maintained that\u00a0Dr. Bawumia\u00a0must be held accountable for attempting to deceive a public office.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, he, recalled that in August 2015, Dr. Bawumia \u201cheld a press conference and claimed that he had in his possession some Togolese register which was a 10 percent work in progress and that in due course, we was going to produce the extra 90 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is the extra 90 percent from neighboring countries for which Nana Addo was abroad saying that we have more than one million foreigners on our voters\u2019 register,\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75541\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75541\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/koku-anyidoho.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-75541\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/koku-anyidoho.jpg\" alt=\"Koku Anyidoho \" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/koku-anyidoho.jpg 495w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/koku-anyidoho-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75541\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Koku Anyidoho<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMy lawyers advised me, I am taking Bawumia court. That is more of interest to me,\u201d the NDC Deputy General Secretary declared.<\/p>\n<p>Koku Anydoho\u00a0argued further that Dr. Bawumia \u201csought to deceive public office in the office of the EC with his fake Togolese register for which reason we have gotten to where we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe criminal offenses act allows us to go and check the law as to whether Bawumia should not be brought to book for his attempts to mislead the EC with his fake and fictitious Togolese register,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On August 18, 2015 Dr. Bawumia during a presentation alleged that Ghana\u2019s electoral roll was flawed with names of minors and over 76,000 Togolese.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/bawumia-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-235480\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/bawumia-2.png\" alt=\"bawumia-2\" width=\"601\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that other African nationals from Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso were also on the roll hence the need for a new one to be compiled before the 2016 general elections but the EC rejected the claims describing it as &#8220;unconvincing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0committee constituted by the Commission to collate views on proposals for a new register, analysed the NPP&#8217;s claims and concluded that they were not credible.<\/p>\n<p>Some NDC communicators as a result, called for the arrest of the economist for peddling falsehood, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/04\/20\/mp-renews-calls-for-bawumias-arrest-over-bloated-registe\/\">most recently<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the MP\u00a0for the Juaboso Constituency in the Western Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to sue the Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for attempting to mislead the State with claims he was in possession of an electoral register full of Togolese nationals.
