<\/p>\nIn a bid to provide relief to the less privileged in society, a youthful Non-governmental organisation, (NGO), \u2018Young People\u2019s Initiative (YPI)\u2019 has built and donated a toilet facility to serve pupils of the Bomso Primary School in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
The school, which has had no toilet facility since its inception, forced many pupils to play truancy with the excuse of attending to natures call at home.<\/p>\n
According to a teacher of the school, Ellen Nyarkoah Agyei, pupils usually ask to be excused to visit the toilet and do not return.<\/p>\n
This according to her, also disorganized teaching and learning on daily basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryday students ask to be excused to go home to attend to natures call. Sometimes we know they are lying but this is a crucial situation. We cannot prevent a student from attending to natures call just because we think they might be lying. What if he is telling the truth and ends up messing himself up in class?\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
She also emphasized how the school environment is most often untidy and unhygienic, as students keep defecating around the school\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n
Some of the students who spoke to Citi News<\/strong> expressed joy at the new development and thanked YPI for providing them with the facility.<\/p>\n A pupil said \u201cmy house is far from here so sometimes I don\u2019t even get home, I have to look for some bush if the discomfort is highly unbearable\u201d.<\/p>\n President of the YPI, Akosua Ntiriwaa Anti, who together with some members of the group officially handed over the toilet facility to the school, told Citi News the initiative was to help eliminate open defecation to improve health and hygiene among students.<\/p>\n According to her \u201cchildren, especially girls need the right care most especially during puberty, but this cannot be effective if there are some schools in the villages that still lack access to basic facilities like toilet.\u201d<\/p>\n A representative from the Ghana Education Service (GES), Madam Hellen Odame, who could not hide her joy for the initiative, lauded YPI.<\/p>\n \u201cI think this is in the right direction. This is very good because in villages like this, this is what they need. So I think if all NGOs will take to this initiative and assist those in these rural areas, they will be very happy\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n She further urged the YPI to continue with such charitable jobs as it is a way of giving back to society. She also tasked the school authorities to take good care of the facility.<\/p>\n The ceremony was attended by chiefs of the village, residents, teachers and students.<\/p>\n Also in attendance was a former head teacher of the school, Madam Christiana Obeng, who assisted the YPI to officially hand over the property to the school authorities.<\/p>\n The facility was funded by contributions from members of the YPI, as well as other benevolent individuals, who are not members of the group.<\/p>\n About YPI<\/strong><\/p>\n The Young Peoples Initiative (YPI), is a non-profitable organization based in Accra, Ghana.<\/p>\n It was founded in 2014 as a result of the problems most people face especially young girls when growing up.<\/p>\n As such, YPI-Ghana was established to mentor the young ones on how to overcome challenges they may face in life.<\/p>\n Their mission is to transform the younger generation towards having a positive mentality and to form a network of empowered ladies across the globe.
