{"id":233316,"date":"2016-07-22T08:00:58","date_gmt":"2016-07-22T08:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=233316"},"modified":"2016-07-22T08:00:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-22T08:00:58","slug":"voters-register-exhibition-accra-ec-recruits-agitated-over-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/voters-register-exhibition-accra-ec-recruits-agitated-over-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Voters&#8217; register exhibition: Accra EC recruits agitated over pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ongoing exhibition exercise may suffer a setback as some persons contracted by the Electoral Commission to conduct the exercise in the capital, Accra, say they are\u00a0in the dark concerning their remuneration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Kojo Agyeman visited some exhibition centres in Accra, where some of the recruits said they have been working without knowing exactly how much they will be paid at the end of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>They have thus served notice they will protest if the amounts are not favourable.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;spyZboJZEaGl9n4qsDBfpgYh1BLICh5R&#8221;]One of the officers indicated that, he was not even sure of how much he is to receive as remuneration.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cWe are working without knowing our salary\u2026 they [EC] told me it is 400. My friends sometimes say it is 500, some too say 350.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we keep asking them, they keep telling us they [EC] will pay but they don\u2019t give us the exact amount they will be giving to us,\u201d another officer lamented.<\/p>\n<p>The officials have called on the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei, to\u00a0address the matter before the end of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now we want Charlotte Osei to come out and state\u00a0it clearly\u00a0that this is the exact amount we are supposed to pay to the officers at the end of the exercise,\u201d an officer asserted.<\/p>\n<p>One other further suggested that, the possibility of a protest if the eventual remuneration announced is not favorable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will protest or just form an organisation to go on a\u00a0demonstration,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Protests from Tamale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exhibition and re-registration exercise in the Tamale Metropolitan area has also seen <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/17\/ecs-exhibition-officers-in-tamale-threaten-boycott-over-allowances\/\">similar complaints<\/a><\/strong><\/span> over remuneration.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the recruits have threatened to boycott the exercise over the allowances meant for the 21-days.\u00a0According to them, their checks revealed that their colleagues in other regions are to receive GHc720, whereas they will collect GHc 400 at the end of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>They also declared their stance in protest against the GHc30 given to them as allowances, after undergoing a three-day intensive capacity building workshop ahead of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, their colleagues in other districts within the Northern Region received GHc 60 cedis for the same workshop.<\/p>\n<p>When <strong>Citi News<\/strong> visited some of the exhibition centres, the angry EC recruits were busy at post, but insisted no amount of persuasion will convince them except an increase in the allowances.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ongoing exhibition exercise may suffer a setback as some persons contracted by the Electoral Commission to conduct the exercise in the capital, Accra, say they are\u00a0in the dark concerning their remuneration.
