Caterers providing food to public school children can now heave a sigh of relief as the debt owed them by government have been cleared.<\/p>\n
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, speaking at the launch of a school feeding policy at Bortianor in Accra, noted that \u201cthe management and staff of the Ghana School Feeding\u00a0Programme,\u00a0have had their salaries reviewed and have been realigned to the government’s single spine salary structure.<\/p>\n

The caterers in recent times had complained about their\u00a0inability to\u00a0continue providing the pupils with food due to\u00a0government’s indebtedness to them.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, caterers of the school feeding program threatened to lay down their tools\u00a0in reaction.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresently, we have registered 224,000 children under school feeding free of charge under the National Health Insurance Scheme\u201d.<\/p>\n
The motive of registering children under the National Health Insurance Scheme without charge, is to enable students access free quality health care.<\/p>\n
She also revealed government\u2019s intention to register the over 1.7 million school children under the school feeding programme free of charge, unto the National Health Insurance Scheme.<\/p>\n
