The staff and faculty members of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) have said they have not petitioned the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) because of a possible conflict of interest.

GIMPA employees have been advised by the Deputy Minister in charge of tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to formally petition the NCTE for investigations into their demand for the immediate dissolution of their governing council.

But the NCTE has said it has not received any such petition.

[contextly_sidebar id=”21arl0rxlYVGI6QFqghpa2t15BQwdDk3″]According to the President of the GIMPA Senior Staff Association, Dr. Stanley Coffie, they have not petitioned the NCTE because the Executive Secretary of NCTE, serves on the GIMPA Council, a situation that could constitute conflict of interest.

“Under normal circumstances that is what is required. We didn’t do that because of potential conflict of interest. The chairperson, Professor. Mohammed Salifu is also a member of the GIMPA Council and we do not expect him to investigate himself because this is the Council that we are dealing with and a Council that we want thrown out. We know he cannot throw himself out and we don’t expect that, that’s the reason we went straight to the presidency”.

Background

The staff and faculty of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) are calling for the immediate dissolution of their governing council.

This followed a vote of no confidence passed against the leadership of the council.

The staff members therefore petitioned the President John Mahama to cause the immediate dissolution of the council to ensure the smooth running of the school.
