{"id":231966,"date":"2016-07-18T10:56:12","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T10:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=231966"},"modified":"2016-07-18T10:56:12","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T10:56:12","slug":"supreme-court-clears-zanetor-to-contest-klottey-korle-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/supreme-court-clears-zanetor-to-contest-klottey-korle-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court clears Zanetor to contest Klottey Korle seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court has cleared the Klottey Korle National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary nominee, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, to contest the seat.<\/p>\n<p>The court has also directed the High Court to give a ruling in line with the determination by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;E1Dvglgv1IkzfOmKvS3CgJ7fnaFo6yRU&#8221;]According to the court, a person is only deemed a candidate after the Electoral Commission (EC) opens the opportunity for parties to submit the names of their nominees elected from their parties primaries and that has not happened yet hence the argument of her not being qualified cannot hold.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer for Dr. Zenator, Edudzi Tamakloe explained to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that, \u201cthe order of the Supreme Court is that the High Court judges should apply their decision so effectively, what is before the High Court has become moot\u2026 Once the Supreme Court has decided the matter, the High Court judge is bound to apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The defeated incumbent MP for Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashietey went to court to challenge the eligibility Dr. Zanetor because she was not a registered voter when she elected as a nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ashietey was thus praying the court to declare her election null and void, an action he insisted was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/18\/im-in-court-in-the-interest-of-ndc-armah-ashietey\/\">in the party&#8217;s interest<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2016 however, Zanetor <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/04\/28\/zenator-finally-a-registered-voter\/\">registered<\/a><\/strong><\/span> when the EC opened the register for new voters in its limited registration exercise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Earlier case annulled <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Accra High Court has already <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/01\/15\/181925\/\">dismissed a case<\/a><\/strong><\/span> filed by some members of the NDC in Klottey Korle constituency which sought to annul the results of the NDC\u2019s parliamentary primary in the area for the same reasons.<\/p>\n<p>The three; Joseph Narku Botchway, Jacob Amin and Reverend Michael Kwabena Nii Adjei Sowah went to court to challenge the eligibility of Dr. Zanetor who they alleged was not a registered voter.<\/p>\n<p>The courts however said the plaintiff did not demonstrate in anyway how their rights had been violated or would be violated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Kwame Botchway\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court has cleared the Klottey Korle National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary nominee, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, to contest the seat.
