{"id":230717,"date":"2016-07-14T10:21:31","date_gmt":"2016-07-14T10:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=230717"},"modified":"2016-07-14T10:21:31","modified_gmt":"2016-07-14T10:21:31","slug":"kojo-bonsu-resignation-ndc-supporters-protest-kumasi-traditional-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/kojo-bonsu-resignation-ndc-supporters-protest-kumasi-traditional-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Kojo Bonsu resignation: NDC supporters protest against Kumasi Traditional Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Angry supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been protesting the circumstances\u00a0leading up to the resignation of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu.<\/p>\n<p>The supporters intimate that the undue pressure from the Kumasi Traditional Council forced the MCE to resign.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;IGJbh6DeUSXGX1P1cy9nSMGGVRUKF24Q&#8221;]Kojo Bonsu on Tuesday tendered in his resignation after the Kumasi Traditional Council passed a vote of no confidence in him following a disagreement that ensued.<\/p>\n<p>The council had called on President John Mahama to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/04\/asanteman-council-demands-removal-of-kma-boss\/\">sack \u00a0Mr. Bonsu<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0over his decision to\u00a0unilaterally remove Amoamanhene, Nana Agyenim Boateng from the Kejetia Market project board without informing the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NDC supporters hail Kojo Bonsu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some NDC supporters unhappy with the traditional council\u00a0spoke highly of the former KMA boss to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>One sympathizer of Mr. Bonsu said, \u201cThe mayor [Kojo Bonsu] is doing a good job. The mayor is a good leader in the Ashanti region so we are supporting the Mayor so we the NDC foot soldiers are demonstrating against the Ashanti regional chiefs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One other person hailed Mr. Bonsu as being behind the recent \u201cremarkable\u201d development in Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKojo Bonsu deserves a lot of praise. I believe he should be left to continue his good work. Everyone can attest to the remarkable development across the length and breadth of Kumasi. When Kumasi develops, it is for the good of all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allegations against Kojo Bonsu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kojo Bonsu\u2019s tenure as KMA boss was however not regarded fondly by all with some groups <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/13\/investigate-kojo-bonsu-for-misappropriation-of-funds-group\/\">calling for an investigation<\/a><\/strong><\/span> into the former MCE or acts for financial malfeasance.<\/p>\n<p>The Assemblyman for the Abusuakuruwa electoral area in Kumasi, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has indicated that there is already a petition before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), asking for investigations into the dealings\u00a0of the former KMA boss<\/p>\n<p>Citing some instances of financial malfeasance\u00a0on the part of Mr. Bonsu, Mr. Boakye stated that, the cost of the development of the Rattray Park had been inflated.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Boakye also noted that, the revenue accrued from tolls collected at the Kejetia market have not been unaccounted for since Mr. Bonsu assumed that responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Angry supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been protesting the circumstances\u00a0leading up to the resignation of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu.
