The Electoral Commission will on\u00a0Monday, July 18, start re-registering voters who were deleted from the nation’s voters’ register because they used National Health Insurance (NHIS) cards as proof of nationality ahead of the 2012 elections.<\/p>\n
The commission set the date\u00a0after\u00a0it announced it has deleted 56,772 names of such persons in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive.<\/p>\n
The court as part of the ruling, also asked the Commission to ensure that such persons are not disenfranchised, but are properly re-registered.<\/p>\n

Exhibition exercise also starts on July 18<\/strong><\/p>\n The Commission has also announced that its exhibition exercise will also start from July 18 to August 7.<\/p>\n The Commission, on Tuesday indicated that, the names of the 56,000 voters who were captured on the register with the National Health Insurance card as proof of Ghanaian citizenship,\u00a0had been deleted<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n Addressing a news conference in Accra, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Mr. Samuel Tettey, said a list of names deleted from the register will be published at the various registration centres across the country for the attention of those affected.<\/p>\n \u201cThe date for the exhibition is slated for Monday 18 of July 2016, to 2nd August. This year\u2019s exhibition exercise is a bit different from the previous ones for some reason. In other words, this particular exhibition exercise is characterized by three main innovations. First of all, the Commission has decided to extend the 10 to 14 days that we normally use for the exhibition exercise to 21 days.”<\/p>\n He stated that, the exercise is relevant because it \u201coffers voters an opportunity to know where their polling station is.\u201d<\/p>\n We\u2019ll delete \u2018NHIS voters\u2019 not captured on court\u2019s list<\/strong><\/p>\n The Commission has also promised to delete names of other NHIS registrants whose names were not captured on the list of 56,000 presented to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Tettey said \u201cany other NHIS card registrant who is found apart from the list which was presented by the Supreme Court will also be deleted.\u201d<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
