{"id":229283,"date":"2016-07-09T07:10:31","date_gmt":"2016-07-09T07:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=229283"},"modified":"2016-07-09T07:10:31","modified_gmt":"2016-07-09T07:10:31","slug":"abetifi-by-election-now-scheduled-for-july-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/abetifi-by-election-now-scheduled-for-july-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Abetifi by-election now scheduled for July 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Electoral Commission (EC) has brought forward the date for the Abetifi Constituency by-election in the Eastern Region, from July 19 to July 16, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The by-election, which is in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, was necessitated following\u00a0the death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the area, Peter Wiafe Pepera.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mFNXtpjBaAZF5Ph4GToiI7I9P8Jr4q9A&#8221;]A statement issued by Alhaji Amadu Sulley, EC\u2019s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, explained that, the change in date is to make way for the planned exhibition of the provisional voter\u2019s register scheduled to start on Monday, July 18.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll contesting parties have been given due notice of the change, and the commission has put adequate measures in place to ensure a smooth electoral exercise,\u201d the EC assured in the statement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Death of Peter Pepera<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MP for the Abetifi Constituency Wiafe Pepera, died on May 21 at the 37 Military Hospital where he was on admission.<\/p>\n<p>The late lawmaker who\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/21\/abetifi-mp-peter-wiafe-peprah-dead\/\">died<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>a fortnight after his 62nd\u00a0birthday, was once a minister in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration before joining the NPP in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>He was a Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>_<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/election.citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Electoral Commission (EC) has brought forward the date for the Abetifi Constituency by-election in the Eastern Region, from July 19 to July 16, 2016.
