{"id":22899,"date":"2014-06-05T13:38:44","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T13:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=22899"},"modified":"2014-06-05T13:38:44","modified_gmt":"2014-06-05T13:38:44","slug":"woman-ordered-to-pay-for-husbands-upkeep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/06\/woman-ordered-to-pay-for-husbands-upkeep\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman ordered to pay for husband\u2019s upkeep"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A woman has been ordered to pay Sh3,000 every month for the upkeep of her husband and their children.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Ms Roselyne Muyonga, who is accused of abandoning her husband Vincent Onyango and their two children, risks a five-year jail term or a Sh200,000 fine if she fails to pay the monthly upkeep.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Kakamega County Children\u2019s Officer Dishon Otuko said the woman neglected her responsibility of looking after the children after separating from her husband.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cMen have been suffering whenever women decide to abandon them with children. We think it is important to hold such women responsible to ensure they also play a role in upkeep of their children as required by law,\u201d Mr Otuko ordered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Already, some lobby groups are pushing for the amendment of the Children\u2019s Act to compel women to contribute for the upkeep of their children after they separate from their husbands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWe are sure it is the right direction to go because\u00a0 a couple cannot separate and leave one of them to bear the brunt of the marriage break-up,\u201d Mr Otuko said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>According to the children\u2019s officer, cases of women abandoning their husbands and children have increased in Kakamega County.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIt clearly shows that social norms and beliefs have been thrown to the dogs and families continue to disintegrate at lightning speed,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The man, who works as a casual labourer, reported the matter to the children\u2019s offices last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Credit: Daily Nation<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A woman has been ordered to pay Sh3,000 every month for the upkeep of her husband and their children.
