The Supreme Court has scheduled Tuesday July 12 2016, for the hearing of the contempt suit brought against owners of Accra-based Montie FM, the host of the station\u2019s \u2018Pampaso\u2019 programme, and two panelists, who threatened to kill judges over their handling of the Abu Ramadan suit on the credibility of the voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n
The court in a letter asked the defendants to explain why they should not be “committed to prison for contempt of court, for scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the court, and bringing the authority of the court into disrepute.”<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court on Tuesday cited<\/strong><\/span><\/a> the owners of the radio station and the two other panelists of the show for contempt .<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”ZFvHTknVXGv75zweZNk8Fgkso3MJbwGi”]The judges said they had issued a warrant for them to appear before them to answer for contempt charges.<\/p>\n The two, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, allegedly threatened to \u201cfinish\u201d the Supreme Court \u00a0judges if they made any judgment against the Electoral Commission in the ongoing court case challenging the validity of the voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n The two have since been widely chastised over the comments.<\/p>\n We were terrified by Montie FM panelists\u2019 threat \u2013 Judges\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Association of Judges and Magistrates on Monday said\u00a0they were\u00a0scared for their lives <\/a><\/strong><\/span>following the threats by the two the political commentators\u00a0to eliminate them.<\/p>\n Montie FM panelist apologises after threatening to kill judges <\/strong><\/p>\n Nelson later apologized<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in a statement saying: \u201cI participated in a program on Montie FM. During my contribution, I made statements that in context, content (though conditional) and timing, are regrettable.
