The Founder and leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has stated that he is the best man to turn the country’s fortunes around given his personal successes in business.

According to Dr. Nduom, he “has the right talent to solve the current challenges facing Ghanaians such as economy and job creation.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”9BpyoeJSM0LNKkCDWR0DfRw5IQxzMH7X”]A statement from Nduom’s 2016 Secretariat acknowledged the expertise of the flagbearers of other political parties in other areas, but noted that Dr. Nduom’s economic prowess is what the country needs now to lead it out of it’s current state.

“He [Dr. Nduom] recognizes that Nana Akufo-Addo and Ivor Greenstreet have talent as lawyers; that President John Mahama has talent as a communicator; and that Dr. Edward Mahama has talent as a medical doctor. Nonetheless, he believes that the talents he has practiced successfully as an economic and financial expert plus entrepreneur, are the ones Ghana needs now,” the statement said.

The statement highlighted Nduom’s impact in the country’s business scene as CEO of Groupe Nduom, which had earned him the title “Edwumawura.”

“Dr. Nduom has worked hard with Groupe Nduom management and staff and his family to create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians. He has also led his companies to make strategic investments outside the country to earn much needed foreign currency for the country. He is known and recognized everywhere as “Edwumawura.”

PPP endorses Nduom

The PPP has said that it will endorse its founder Dr. Nduom as the party’s flagbearer for the elections in November 2016.

The PPP revealed that, of the two people to pick up nomination forms, only Mr. Nduom went through the party’s vetting process successfully.

According to the National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond, the party is planning to hold its National Delegates’ Congress in July, where Dr. Nduom will be unveiled.

Parliamentary focus

The PPP has said it is focused on winning more seats in parliament in the coming elections and will present a strong challenge to candidates from other parties in all ten regions.

The party released its strategy for the parliamentary polls, including a “house-to-house campaign” for its parliamentary aspirants to whip up public support.

Dr. Nduom has indicated that, he intends to back the party’s parliamentary candidates as much as he can and will “campaign seriously with PPP parliamentary candidates to ensure the party wins seats to gain advocates in the legislature who will move for changes to be made to the 1992 constitution.”

PPP causes a stir in 2012

Dr. Nduom broke away from the CPP, where he served as flagbearer in 2008, to found the PPP in 2012.

The party surprised political pundits when it polled about 64,362 votes representing 0.59% of the votes cast, only behind the NDC and NPP.
