Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has sued talk show host Salifu Maase popularly known as Mugabe of Accra-based Montie FM, and the Founder of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor for defamation.

The Shanghai SIPG attacker is furious over claims by the two defendants that he is sponsoring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the November polls.

Gyan has since denied the allegations and is praying the High Court to place a “perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves, servants, agents or assigns from repeating similar or other libelous words against the plaintiff as well as costs, including lawyers’ fees.”

Confirming the decision to Citi News, Asamoah Gyan’s Manager, Samuel Anim said “I can confirm to you that we are in court and we’ve sued Montie FM’s Mugabe and Madam Akua Donkor.”

He stated that the duo were given several opportunities to apologize for their comments but they refused to do so.

“If you look at the time the issue happened, we gave them the chance to apologize. Asamoah Gyan did a video clip and we showed to the whole that the guy was speaking irresponsibly and we asked that his management calls him to order to apologize but they decided not to do that.

“Currently we know that this same station has descended on our judges. I asked the GJA and the National Media Commission to act against such utterances on radio.”

Montie FM panelists summoned

Meanwhile the Supreme Court has summoned two other panelists of the station, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Akun Gunn for threatening the lives of judges in the country.

According to the judges, they have issued a warrant for them to appear before them to answer for contempt charges.
