The Police in Accra have arrested some 29 persons, including a national security officer, suspected to have committed various crimes in the national capital.<\/p>\n
The persons were alleged to have been involved in various crimes including break-ins, acts of fraud and theft in Accra.<\/p>\n
The Madina Divisional Police commander, Chief Superintendent, Yakubu Aggrey Nangtomah, told Citi News<\/strong> the arrests followed an operation in Madina and its environs to rid the area off criminals ahead of the Ramadan celebrations on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cFor our preparation towards a peaceful Sallah, we have conducted proactive policing activities which resulted to the arrest of these suspected criminals and accused persons,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n According to Chief Supt Nangtomah, the national security officer, an ex-military sergeant, was arrested for allegedly duping an individual of an unspecified amount of money during a car deal.<\/p>\n Some other arrested suspects were reported to have engaged in various crimes including, stealing a motorbike valued at $5,000.<\/p>\n One other suspect, identified only as Edem, bolted away with client\u2019s car after it was given to him to do repair work on and subsequently used it as a taxi.<\/p>\n Chief Supt Nangtomah noted this exercise was undertaken \u201cto ensure we have an incident free Sallah.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that \u201cprior to that, the division mounted a serious swoop on various criminal hideouts in Madina market and we arrested 29 suspected criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n Some of the criminals have since been granted bail and investigations are still ongoing with the suspects scheduled to appear before court in due course.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Kuukua Buahin\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Police in Accra have arrested some 29 persons, including a national security officer, suspected to have committed various crimes in the national capital.
