newly-appointed<\/a><\/span><\/strong> Chief of Army Staff, Major General Obed Boamah Akwah.<\/p>\nHe said, the Bazoa Barracks in the Upper East Region would be upgraded and a \u201cproper\u201d barracks would also be established in the Upper West and Central Regions, for the establishment of military garrisons there.<\/p>\n
The president assured the military of government\u2019s continued support in carrying out their mandate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to invest more money in our armed forces so that they carry out the mandate that our constitution gives them to\u00a0protect the territorial integrity of our country\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
Major General Boamah Akwa, until his appointment, was the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.<\/p>\n
He also served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the former President, John Agyekum Kufuor from 2005, till the end of his term.<\/p>\n
Excerpts of his curriculum vitae described him as \u201csenior military officer with broad level experience in defence and crisis management matters and considerable understanding of the nuances of international relations. He is well-practiced in strategic planning and operational delivery with a special knack for defining and analyzing problems\/situations and designing and implementing practical solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n
He held various positions of responsibility including Command, Operational, Administrative and Human Resource Management in the Ghana Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
Major General Boamah Akwa holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Global Security from the Cranfield University, United Kingdom, a Masters of Science (MSc) in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, India.
