The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has lauded moves by some Chinese companies to relocate to Ghana to have access to raw materials.<\/p>\n
The Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah recently announced that a number of Chinese companies have contacted government to relocate into Ghana to enable them have access to raw materials.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi Business News, the Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, Mawuena Trebarh stated that the decision will provide good investment opportunities for the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the Chinese happen to be best in a particular area, obviously like everyone else they will be expected to abide by the laws that govern investment. Everyone knows that they have had great success in the manufacturing space. So the first thing we would do is to showcase the opportunities not just to the Chinese investing community but also to the Ghanaian investing community,”she said.<\/p>\n
Expressing optimism at the development, Mrs. Trebarh stated that the initiative will also attract more investment opportunities from other countries and also encourage the domestic business community to prepare for opportunities for Joint venture partnerships.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the things we have been very big on is encouraging the domestic business community to pair for opportunities for joint venture partnerships. Now we are obviously interested in supporting investments in manufacturing because it creates a quality set of jobs for our young people,” she said.<\/p>\n
She disclosed that the center will concentrate on identifying areas the require sustainable investment to impact the life of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we need to do is to ensure that they understand what the laws require of them, they must understand the implications for non-compliance and they also must understand that there are actually exceptional Ghanaian business men and business women who they can potentially partner with them”, she said.<\/p>\n
Trade volumes between Ghana and China hit 6.5 billion US dollars in 2015 and the figure is expected to grow this year.<\/p>\n
Recently, China sought to increase its import of goods from Ghana to strengthen bilateral trade between the two nations.<\/p>\n
