{"id":227494,"date":"2016-07-02T15:47:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-02T15:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=227494"},"modified":"2016-07-02T15:47:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-02T15:47:00","slug":"confusion-rocks-manhyia-north-npp-primary-3-arrested-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/confusion-rocks-manhyia-north-npp-primary-3-arrested-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Confusion rocks Manhyia North NPP primary; 3 arrested [Video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ashanti Region\u2019s Manhyia North Constituency,was on Saturday\u00a0marred by altercations over the eligibility of some voters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> Lauretta Timah who was on the ground, reported that warning shots had to be fired by Police to prevent some people from whisking the ballot boxes away.<\/p>\n<p>Three persons have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-Qxts_stIA\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Superintendent James Annor, who confirmed the incident to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, stated that some members of party had issues with the eligibility of some of the delegates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only problem we have had so far has been with the process. Some of the members of the party sometimes have problems with those who are supposed to vote &#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Supt. Annor also noted that, the warning shot was fired because there were indications that some people wanted to carry away some ballot boxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to my Chief inspector, who released the shot, there was the possibility that the ballot boxes will be taken away so he had to release the shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of them was disrupting the process&#8230; When the delegates&#8217; names are mentioned then he will go and stop them, saying they are not supposed to vote. I prompted him to clear off, he continued and I had to take him in order to makes sure the process went on peacefully,\u201d Supt. Annor explained.<\/p>\n<p>Previous attempts to elect both constituency executives and a parliamentary candidate were stalled because of internal wrangling.<\/p>\n<p>Some parliamentary aspirants were accusing the constituency\u00a0executives of intentionally bloating the register.<\/p>\n<p>The three aspirants who vied for the slot were the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency; Collins Owusu Amankwah, Richard Osei Bamfo and Kwesi Konadu.<\/p>\n<p>But at the end of voting, Collins Amankwah <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/02\/collins-amankwah-wins-manhyia-north-npp-primary\/\">emerged winner<\/a><\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0\u00a0polling 185 votes as against his closest contender, Kwasi Konadu, who garnered 171 votes while Nana Osei Bamfoe had 129 votes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ashanti Region\u2019s Manhyia North Constituency,was on Saturday\u00a0marred by altercations over the eligibility of some voters.
