The meeting afforded members of the assembly an opportunity to know the progress of projects and programmes being undertaking by the assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Members were also briefed on the security situation in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the meeting, the District Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass lauded security agencies in the area for the efforts they are making to ensure peace and order in the district, and also called on members of the assembly to play their roles in sustaining peace in the area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-226915 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Nanumba-4-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Nanumba 4\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is heartwarming to inform the house that through the relentless efforts of the District Security Council and the Regional Security Council in collaboration with the Regional Peace Council, the Yendi Diocesan Peace Council Centre of the Catholic church, and the Nanung Peace and Reconciliation Committee, there has been relative peace and security in the district since our last meeting in December 2015.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were a few incidents, but the professional and prompt attention given to them prevented them from reaching uncontrollable levels. I wish on behalf of this august assembly to commend the security agencies for their tireless efforts and prompt responses and actions that made it possible for us to enjoy the peace we are enjoying now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-226913 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Nanumba-3-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Nanumba 3\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He explained that, the decision to review the curfew in the area was borne out of the relative peace they are enjoying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is because of the relative peace prevailing in the district that DISEC through the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), recommended to the Ministry of Interior for a review of the curfew from the previous 6:00pm to 6:00am to the current 8:00pm to 5:00am. It is my hope that this situation will improve further so that the curfew will eventually be lifted completely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DCE thus urged all Assembly members especially those from Bimbilla and its environs, to as much as possible play a reconciliation role in bringing lasting peace to the area.<\/p>\n<p>He outlined a number of projects being undertaking by the district and mentioned that about 36 communities in the district have been earmarked to be connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-226950 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Nanumba-5.jpg\" alt=\"Nanumba 5\" width=\"627\" height=\"470\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The DCE however expressed concerns about the activities of illegal chain saw operators in the district, and appealed to traditional authorities to help stop the practice by rejecting incentives from the operators.<\/p>\n<p>He also called on assembly members to report such operators to the assembly, but avoid confrontations with the traditional authorities and such operators.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sanitation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On sanitation, the DCE said the district has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with its partners to eradicate open defecation by November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He was however worried that the district might not be able to meet the target.<\/p>\n<p>The district received a cash reward of 20, 00.00 pounds when it\u2019s emerged 3rd in the Sanitation Challenge Award by Duape Award.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-226949 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Nanumba-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"Nanumba 2\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The district also stands to win an ultimate prize of 1.2million pounds if it is able to carry through its proposal within two years for the sanitation challenge award.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: Mohammed Aminu M.
