The teachers who were recently assaulted \u00a0by thugs at the St. Johns Primary 1 & 2 School at\u00a0Newtown in Accra, have been transferred by the Ghana Education Service (GES).<\/p>\n
Authorities say the decision is to guarantee the safety and security of the victims.<\/p>\n
The teachers, came under attack after they reportedly punished a pupil for breaching school rules.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”OgTnJwn5E4Xbpd1mp4wbMHcU7GYdCJDY”]Reports say, the attackers, who are relatives of the said pupil, led the broad day light attack. Police in Accra are still investigating the incident.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Leroy Nara, Greater Accra Regional Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), said arrangements have been made to prevent similar attacks on teachers in the region.<\/p>\n \u201cMy information from the metro directorate indicates that, they have transferred all those teachers who expressed their desire to be transferred because they did not feel comfortable to remain at the school. They will get their letters by Tuesday but the transfers have been effected.\u201d<\/p>\n He also explained that, police personnel have been deployed to the place to prevent a recurrence of the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cAs far as safety measures are concerned, we have made calls to the relevant authorities. Whoever’s duty it is to ensure that schools are well protected, should make sure they do that and we are assured of that. We\u2019ve been at the St. Johns School since Monday, and we saw that the Police are guarding the place,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Attackers of St Johns teachers will be arrested<\/strong><\/p>\n The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Henry Quartey, has said he is confident the Police\u00a0will arrest<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0the thugs who \u00a0carried out the attack.<\/p>\n The broad daylight attack by cane and knife-wielding hoodlums, forced authorities to close down the school, which has since reopened.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
