{"id":225554,"date":"2016-06-26T13:02:09","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T13:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=225554"},"modified":"2016-06-26T13:02:09","modified_gmt":"2016-06-26T13:02:09","slug":"highway-authority-prepares-to-close-part-of-ayi-mensah-road-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/highway-authority-prepares-to-close-part-of-ayi-mensah-road-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Highway Authority prepares to close part of Ayi-Mensah road [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Highway Authority is putting efforts in place to ensure a successful closure of part of the Ayi-Mensah-Peduase road.<\/p>\n<p>The Southbound Carriageway of the road will be closed to traffic from tomorrow, [Monday], June 27, the Ghana Highway Authority has announced.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, the closure is to &#8220;allow for the slope repair works on the rockface.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;po5dInMWGbND65JqzzkDFE8ezxYUk4WN&#8221;]An earlier statement had announced that the stretch would be closed for five months\u00a0from last\u00a0Wednesday, June 22 to November 19, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ghana Highway Authority announces for the information of motorists that the south-bound lane i.e the lane from the Peduase Lodge to Ayi Mensah on the Accra-Aburi Road would be closed to vehicular traffic for five months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225560\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Peduase-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Peduase\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, the date for the closure was\u00a0pushed back and will now take effect from Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Highway Authority has said\u00a0that measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of road users as\u00a0work on the stretch commences.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225562\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Peduase2-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Peduase2\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Temporary traffic control measures, public information and transportation operation (as well as enforcement) strategies are being deployed to ensure safe passage of traffic on project road during daylight hours and nighttime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Ayi-Mensah- Peduase road<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The road which runs\u00a0along the Aburi hills, connects Accra to the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>However, recent motor accidents on the stretch, many of them associated with falling rocks from the hills have become a major concern.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225563\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Peduase3-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Peduase3\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Observers have even suggested that\u00a0the hill may give way soon if immediate steps are not taken to address the problem.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor tasked to work on the project is expected to stabilise the slope and halt the fall of rocks, which now pose a danger to the travelling public, particularly vehicles on the Aburi-Accra section of the road.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225564\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Peduase4-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Peduase4\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Chief Executive of the GHA in charge of Development, Mr Fred Joe Peseo, had earlier said the Greater Accra Regional Office of the GHA was monitoring the situation, so that it could move in to clear debris of rocks that might fall on the main carriageway.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_224598\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-224598\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-224598\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ayi-mensah-road-2.jpg\" alt=\"Ayi Mensah-Peduase road\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-224598\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ayi Mensah-Peduase road<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Highway Authority is putting efforts in place to ensure a successful closure of part of the Ayi-Mensah-Peduase road.
