{"id":225493,"date":"2016-06-26T10:14:58","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T10:14:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=225493"},"modified":"2016-06-26T10:14:58","modified_gmt":"2016-06-26T10:14:58","slug":"re-launched-ayensu-starch-factory-sustainable-hanna-tetteh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/re-launched-ayensu-starch-factory-sustainable-hanna-tetteh\/","title":{"rendered":"Re-launched Ayensu Starch Factory sustainable &#8211; Hanna Tetteh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The newly-relaunched Ayensu Starch Factory will thrive, according to the\u00a0Member of Parliament (MP) for the Awutu-Senya West constituency, where the factory is located, Hanna Tetteh.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Ayensu Factory\u00a0was set up over a decade ago as an agro-processing busi\u00adness tasked to process cassava into food grade starch for local consumption and export.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;QUpQBOAQ3Iv1Wa73BMHSkeHSHnKdyETi&#8221;]However, the factory was beset with numerous technical challenges, \u00a0which forced its closure in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>There have been concerns that the factory might not survive following its relaunch, with\u00a0reports of <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/26\/agric-ministry-blames-cassava-shortage-on-poor-transport-system\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>shortage of cassava<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A similar situation has resulted in the closure of the newly-commission <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/24\/komenda-sugar-factory-shuts-down-to-reopen-in-october\/\"><strong>Komenda Sugar Factory<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, with the Trade Ministry admitting that the shutdown was necessitated by a lack of sugarcane for processing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225573\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ayensu3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Ayensu3\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There have also been concerns about the availability of a market for the starch\u00a0which will be produced at the factory<\/p>\n<p>According to Hanna Tetteh however, there was an established market for the starch,\u00a0as companies like Guinness, whose Root Beer was made with the starch from the factory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225576\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ayensu2-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Ayensu2\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This business is sustainable. It is sustainable because we already have the market secured. All the production is going to Guinness. There is a product called root beer made from the starch from Ayensu so it&#8217;s very much a local Ghanaian product. It was one of the initiatives that we started in the Ministry of Trade to have more companies that are already established use more local content,&#8221; Hanna Tetteh said at the launch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-225577\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Ayensu4-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Ayensu4\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course to be able to use more local content, we have to produce the local content.
