President John Dramani Mahama will issue a fitting response to petitions filed against him at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the Ford car gift given to him by a Burkinabe contractor.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) have both petitioned CHRAJ to investigate the matter.

They accuse the President of corruption and conflict of interest.

[contextly_sidebar id=”g9LlwCRyvph2lZ6savKSv8aslN1LfcBM”]But speaking at the flagstaff house on Thursday President Mahama who described allegations of bribery and corruption as unfounded indicated that he will respond to the petitions filed against him.

“It’s a matter of the Commission on Human Rights, [and] there is a petition there, appropriately we will respond to it. But this anecdotal shouting about corruption as if corruption has exploded under a particular government because we want to give political traction is not good,” he stated.

President Mahama explained that “If you look at the corruption perception index which is the standard measure for corruption in the whole international community, Ghana has continued to make progress every year because they don’t only look at a perception.”

Mahama not remorseful

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), is livid over what it said is President Mahama’s failure to accept responsibility for his decision to accept a Ford expedition from a Burkinabe contractor, ostensibly to influence him.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Policy Advisor for the PPP in a sharp rebuttal to the President’s latest explanation, said the President’s comments shows that he is not remorseful for his actions.

“The President is not showing remorse and he is unrepentant. We believe that the president’s comment is a blow to the fight against corruption. He adopted his usual attitude of passing of the buck in matters that needed his direct intervention. His Excellency has demonstrated a lack of commitment to the principle of accepting responsibility for his own actions and that of his government. President Mahama has no remorse and is unrepentant, “ he added.
