The Auditor General has uncovered the use of unaccounted cash to the tune of \u00a0GHc 1.5 million by a cashier of the Ghana Railway Company limited.<\/p>\n
This was revealed at the sitting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The acting Managing Director of the company, John Essel, recounted that \u201cthere was cash that was supposed to have been bound, however, the cashier failed to put them at the bank.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result of that, the Economic and Organized Crime unit was invited to investigate this issue\u201d but\u00a0attempts by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to retrieve the money have so far yielded no results, according to Mr. Essel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis issue has been going on for quite a long time. We have made several follow ups with the Economic and Organized Crime unit so that we could get the outcome of the report which has not been forthcoming,\u201d Mr. Essel explained.<\/p>\n
The PAC has thus requested the presence of EOCO to brief them on how far they have gone with the recovery of the said funds.<\/p>\n
The Ghana Railway Company has been struggling \u00a0for years, due to the\u00a0lack of the needed investment to resuscitate the once vibrant transport sector.<\/p>\n
