Flagbearer of the People\u2019s National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama, has explained that his desire to become President is borne out of his\u00a0ability to take personal responsibility for his actions and contempt for wrongdoing in Ghana.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Evening Encounter Series, Edward Mahama, bemoaned the extent to which Ghana\u2019s weak systems have failed to address the canker of corruption.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mahama stated that, unlike other countries where some Presidents had to step down for being involved in one corrupt practice or the other, the situation is totally different in Ghana.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a system where those who loot are held in high esteem. A former Prime Minister of Latvia resigned when the roof of a Supermarket collapsed, killing 54 people. He said he took political and moral responsibility for the disaster. In Germany, Christian Wulff resigned from high office of President in 2009, put on trial for corruption because his friend was alleged to have paid for his hotel room and his food valued at 700 euros.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the United States of America, President Nixon stepped aside from high office of US President after the Watergate scandal. It is this kind of taking personal responsibility and abhorring wrongdoing that I am offering myself as President of Ghana,\u201d Edward Mahama explained.<\/p>\n
Ghana can rise again<\/strong><\/p>\n Mr. Mahama was however quick to add that, the PNC is devising a detailed manifesto which contains solutions that will address corruption and ensure growth and sustainable development of the\u00a0country.<\/p>\n He stated that, the country can rise again if Ghanaians will make a decision \u201cto go for the PNC\u201d in the November polls.<\/p>\n \u201cWorking together, Ghana can rise again. Let\u2019s go for the PNC. We have a unique and inspiring preposition to transform \u00a0the fortunes of this country.
