The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Henry Quartey, has said he is confident the Police\u00a0will arrest thugs who recently attacked teachers at the St. John\u2019s Primary 1 & 2 School at New Town in Accra.<\/p>\n

The broad daylight attack by cane and knife-wielding hoodlums, forced authorities to close down the school.<\/p>\n

The attack came after a female teacher punished a pupil who had reportedly breached school rules.<\/p>\n

Both teachers and pupils took to their heels as the marauding thugs, said to be relatives of the pupil, raided the school in a show of power against the teachers.<\/p>\n

Reports say the alleged thugs battered a number of teachers before fleeing in a waiting taxi. On Monday, Police arrested a number of suspects in Accra in connection with the attack.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Henry Quartey said he believes the Police will surely bring finality to the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe teachers closed down the school and have threatened not to come back again because their lives were in danger. However, the Police are currently investigating the matter; they have made some arrests and all that. We have provided them with armed Police men and some city guards. They are going to remain there until such time that the security agencies think that the situation has returned to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Identification parade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some female teachers of the school were taken through an identification session<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at the Nima Divisional Police Command on Monday, to assist the Police fish out the attackers among 17 suspects who were rounded up.<\/p>\n

But after the identification process, the women could not identify\u00a0any of the suspects.<\/p>\n
