{"id":224139,"date":"2016-06-21T11:04:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-21T11:04:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=224139"},"modified":"2016-06-21T11:04:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-21T11:04:04","slug":"new-law-to-allow-immigration-officers-to-carry-fire-arms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/new-law-to-allow-immigration-officers-to-carry-fire-arms\/","title":{"rendered":"New law to allow Immigration officers to carry fire arms\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service at the country\u2019s borders will now use fire arms during border patrols.<\/p>\n<p>The Interior Ministry has announced a new law passed recently by Parliament makes it legal for personnel of the service to carry arms.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga announced this at a forum in the Central Region on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the new law will help the Immigration Service in their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recently passed some legislation which now allows the Ghana Immigration Service to possess fire arms and particular the border patrol unit of the service is now allowed to carry fire arms at the various border crossings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was hopeful that the move will boost their confidence in protecting the country\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHitherto, the Ghana Immigration service was not allowed to carry fire arms so the border patrol units police our borders literally with their bare hands, so government found it very necessary and compelling to pass the legislation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Godwin A.
