The Ghana Highway Authority has announced the closure of the “south-bound” lane of the Peduase Lodge-Ayi Mensah road for five months.<\/p>\n
This according to them is to pave way for repair works to be executed on the hill along the road.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by the Highway Authority said the closure will begin tomorrow [Wednesday] June 22 to November 19, 2016.<\/p>\n
“The Ghana Highway Authority announces for the information of motorists that the south-bound lane i.e the lane from the Peduase Lodge to Ayi Mensah on the Accra-Aburi Road would be closed to vehicular traffic for five months.”<\/p>\n
The statement added that\u00a0“as an alternative, motorists may also use the Kitase-Berekusu road.”<\/p>\n
“Motorists are kindly advised to co-operate with the traffic wardens at the Ayi Mensah and Peduase ends of the roads and also follow directional signs that would be placed along the route to ensure safe execution of the works,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
Background<\/strong><\/p>\n The road which was constructed along the Aburi hills connects the capital city, Accra to the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n The lane had become a death trap in recent times because some of the rocks on the hill have been falling on the road at an alarming rate.<\/p>\n Some observers had opined that the hill may give way soon if immediate steps are not taken to address the problem.<\/p>\n What contractor needs to do<\/strong><\/p>\n The contractor tasked to work on the project is expected to stabilise the slope and halt the fall of rocks, which now pose a danger to the travelling public, particularly vehicles on the Aburi-Accra section of the road.<\/p>\n The Deputy Chief Executive of the GHA in charge of Development, Mr Fred Joe Peseo, had earlier said the Greater Accra Regional Office of the GHA was monitoring the situation, so that it could move in to clear debris of rocks that might fall on the main carriageway.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
