{"id":222984,"date":"2016-06-16T18:19:34","date_gmt":"2016-06-16T18:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=222984"},"modified":"2016-06-16T18:19:34","modified_gmt":"2016-06-16T18:19:34","slug":"guta-protests-closing-down-of-members-shops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/guta-protests-closing-down-of-members-shops\/","title":{"rendered":"GUTA protests closing down of members\u2019 shops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) whose shops were locked up by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), have vowed to register their protest at the decision.<\/p>\n<p>The Special Revenue and Mobilization Unit of the GRA on Thursday embarked on an operation to clamp down on all retail shops who have defaulted in filing their tax returns on Value Added Tax (VAT).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-57825 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG-20160616-WA0001.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20160616-WA0001\" width=\"1032\" height=\"581\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A total of 44 shops were locked up at the end of the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the traders resisted the operation insisting that there were not given adequate information on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the mobile phone traders association, Osei Agyeman explained to <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>, the move flouted the ongoing negotiation between the association and the GRA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a discussion; we haven\u2019t completed anything yet the GRA comes to do this\u2026this is not fair,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Agyeman further expressed worry over what he termed as the limited time period given to members to get their returns updated with the GRA,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact in the advert you were saying that those who haven\u2019t complied should come to the GRA office and see how best you can regularize their papers and that was fair at least you should give at least one or two weeks\u2019 notice\u2026 you just cannot come and close their shops,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-57832 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG-20160616-WA0008.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20160616-WA0008\" width=\"1032\" height=\"581\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile commenting on the matter, the President of GUTA, Barima Dr. Ofori Ameyaw\u00a0hinted to Citi Business News of a meeting with members of the mobile phone dealers association on tomorrow (Friday) to present a petition to the Commissioner General of the GRA on the concerns raised over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) whose shops were locked up by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), have vowed to register their protest at the decision.
