The Supreme Court has dismissed a review motion filed by incumbent NDC Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korley Constituency, Nii Armah Ashitey.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ashietey, who’s challenging the eligibility of the party’s parliamentary nominee for the constituency Zanetor Rawlings, filed the application for judicial review of the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling stopping the hearing of his case at the High Court.<\/p>\n

Background <\/strong><\/p>\n Mr. Ashietey is challenging\u00a0the\u00a0eligibility of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) elected parliamentary nominee for the constituency, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings at the High Court. But Dr. Rawlings\u00a0headed to the Supreme Court which ruled that the High Court did not have jurisdiction over the matter which is a subject of constitutional interpretation.<\/p>\n The ruling stated that Justice Kwaku T. Ackah Boafo, erred by giving himself powers\u00a0\u00a0beyond what is due him, as he tried interpreting the constitution in his ruling on the\u00a0\u00a022nd of March.<\/p>\n But lawyers of Mr. Ashietey said they held a different view\u00a0on the ruling of the Supreme Court on the 19th of May 2016, hence their decision to seek a review.<\/p>\n Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has since her election been fighting a legal tussle where the\u00a0\u00a0incumbent NDC MP for the constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey, is challenging her locus and capacity to represent the party in the 2016 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n In his suit, Mr. Ashitey claims Dr. Rawlings was not qualified to contest the primary since she was not a registered voter.<\/p>\n Zanetor Rawlings\u00a0\u00a0is now registered\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Meanwhile Zanetor Rawlings in April 2016, registered when the Electoral Commission opened the register for new voters in its limited registration exercise.<\/p>\n But lawyer for the incumbent MP, Gary Nimako, has said the sudden registration by Dr. Zanetor\u00a0\u00a0Rawlings in the limited voters\u2019 registration exercise, will not exonerate her from any wrongdoing or bring the case to a close.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Delali Adogla Bessah\/Fred Djabanor\/ citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Supreme Court has dismissed a review motion filed by incumbent NDC Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korley Constituency, Nii Armah Ashitey.
