{"id":222157,"date":"2016-06-14T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T09:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=222157"},"modified":"2016-06-14T09:00:25","modified_gmt":"2016-06-14T09:00:25","slug":"govt-to-construct-railway-line-from-tema-to-akosombo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/govt-to-construct-railway-line-from-tema-to-akosombo\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t to\u00a0construct\u00a0railway line from Tema to Akosombo\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Mahama has announced government\u2019s intention to construct a railway line from Tema in the Greater Accra Region to Akosombo in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>President Mahama made this known in a speech after a meeting with the visiting Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-222129\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Capture.png\" alt=\"Capture\" width=\"527\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to him, the railway line will be strategic in the movement of people and goods to the Northern part of the country via the Volta River with Akosombo as the point of entry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-222127\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/1-2.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"544\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The President is thus courting support from the Indian government to make this project a reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Tema Akosombo Railway line is an important project to Ghana because it is going to enable us pick containers and other cargo including fuel products, cement and other such products along the 88 kilometre railway line to Akosombo which is a port on the lower end of the Volta River.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From this port we will be able to push these products along the Volta lake to the Northern ports at a place called Buipe and from Buipe those containers can continue either to the three Northern regions of Ghana or if they are bound for Burkina Faso, Mali and other \u00a0countries, they can be transported from\u00a0 Buipe to our neighbours,\u201dsaid the President.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Mahama has announced government\u2019s intention to construct a railway line from Tema in the Greater Accra Region to Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
