The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected accusations that it has failed in its responsibilities as the main opposition party in Ghana.<\/p>\n
Professor Kwame Karikari of the School of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana chastised the NPP and other political parties for failing to hold government to task on critical issues affecting Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
He indicated that the NPP has all the available information to put government on its toes and challenge government policies which do not serve the best interest of the public.<\/p>\n
Prof. Karikari therefore admonished media houses to take up the responsibility of putting government in check while demanding accountability.<\/p>\n
Some social and political commentators have expressed similar views concerning the posturing of the NPP towards government business.<\/p>\n
But speaking on Eyewitness News, the First Vice Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay rejected the claims.
\nHe expressed surprise at the criticism insisting that \u201cthe party is not sleeping. It is very awake, very responsible and doing what a responsible party in opposition should do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Blay remarked that the NPP is very much involved in happenings in Ghana and \u201cour voice can be heard everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Minority in Parliament according to Mr. Blay have on several occasions criticized \u201cthis government for all the bad things that is happening to this country; from the economy to corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged Ghanaians to disregard the accusations because it is a false representation of the contribution the NPP is making to the development of the nation.<\/p>\n
