The chairman of the Commission investigating past judgment debts payments in Ghana, Justice Yaw Appau is questioning the basis for the existence of several government accounts at the Bank of Ghana.<\/p>\n
This follows revelations by the Deputy Assistant Director at the Banking Department of the Central Bank,\u00a0 Leslie Akron,\u00a0 that there\u00a0 exists over one hundred government\u00a0 accounts in the Bank.<\/p>\n
Speaking \u00a0at Monday\u2019s\u00a0 sitting\u00a0 of the Commission \u00a0Justice\u00a0 Yaw Appau\u00a0 lamented the existence of the accounts saying it could\u00a0 create room\u00a0 for\u00a0 people\u00a0 to carry out unauthorized\u00a0 transactions .<\/p>\n
Justice Yaw Appau asked, \u201chow many accounts does the government hold in the Bank of Ghana?\u201d<\/p>\n
Responding to Justice Appau\u2019s question, Mr. Akron said: \u201cThere are more than one hundred of them. We open and close as the situation demands\u201d.<\/p>\n
The respected Appeals Court Judge questioned why there should be several accounts at the Bank saying, \u201csometimes, we don\u2019t even understand, like the Special Judgment Debt Account. \u00a0Some monies are paid through it (Special Judgment Debt Account) which are not even classified as judgment debt payments. Meanwhile\u00a0 you had\u00a0 earlier told us\u00a0 that there is no\u00a0 account\u00a0 at the Central\u00a0 Bank\u00a0 designated\u00a0 as\u00a0 a\u00a0 Special\u00a0 judgment debt\u00a0 account\u201d.<\/p>\n
