The Community Health Nurses Association, has indicated that it might take a legal action against the Nursing and Midwifery Council, following what they say is government’s refusal to heed their demands.

The community nurses say they are unhappy about government’s refusal to give them the appropriate certification after completing a Ministry of Health sanctioned diploma course at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

[contextly_sidebar id=”hhdjPQahGH2iypT036w6wulRxJXlbh0u”]Speaking to Citi News, the President of the Association, Esther Bamfo, said their concerns are legitimate, adding that they will soon head to the court to seek justice.

“Which of the stakeholders did they consult…Even the Ministry of Health was not aware. It was until we met the Minister that we got to know that they were not informed. There was not enough stakeholder consultation anywhere. The fight is ongoing but it is affecting our mother employer. If they remain adamant, we will know the next line of action to take. If Parliament cannot change anything, the law court can also do something.”

Last two weeks, over thirteen thousand community health nurses belonging to the Association demonstrated over their concerns, to push government to meet their demands.

They subsequently declared a nationwide strike, forcing general nurses and midwives at various health centers and CHPS compounds to takeover additional duties.
