{"id":221053,"date":"2016-06-09T13:00:07","date_gmt":"2016-06-09T13:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=221053"},"modified":"2016-06-09T13:00:07","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T13:00:07","slug":"floods-2-yr-old-feared-dead-nursery-kids-trapped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/floods-2-yr-old-feared-dead-nursery-kids-trapped\/","title":{"rendered":"Floods: 2-yr old feared dead, nursery kids trapped [Video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A two-and-a-half year old baby girl has reportedly been swept away by flood waters as heavy rains engulfed parts of the Greater Accra region Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Elvis Washington reported that\u00a0the flood waters carried away\u00a0Kyerera Sharon at Tema Site 7.<\/p>\n<p>According to the mother of the baby, she left her indoors whilst cooking outside only to be informed by a neighbor that her baby had fallen into a near by drain.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9R3Gyqn5Jvw\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe victim&#8217;s mother, Christiana Obenewaa,\u00a0said they embarked on a\u00a0\u00a0search\u00a0mission as far as to Tema New Town, but the baby could not be found.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have begun a search for the missing girl.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_221079\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-221079\" style=\"width: 596px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-221079\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Mother.jpg\" alt=\"Mother of the 2-year old baby, Christiana Obenewaa.\" width=\"596\" height=\"335\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-221079\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mother of the 2-year old baby, Christiana Obenewaa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_221058\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-221058\" style=\"width: 603px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-221058\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/flooding-here.jpg\" alt=\"Sahara Park road\" width=\"603\" height=\"452\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-221058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the Sahara Park road, a resident carrying a kid rescued from the floods.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Nursery school\u00a0trapped by flood waters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also at Odawna-Sahara, a suburb of Accra, some nursery kids\u00a0were\u00a0trapped by flood waters in their school.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-221059\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/school-girl-flooding.jpg\" alt=\"school girl flooding\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Richard Mensah reported that at Sahara, buildings have almost been covered by the flood waters, including the nursery\u00a0school, the Rapid Results Day Care Centre.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some residents attempted\u00a0to rescue the\u00a0kids, before a joint police and military team arrived to take over rescue operations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accra floods again<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several parts of Accra have flooded heavily following the rains.
