{"id":220450,"date":"2016-06-07T11:30:55","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T11:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=220450"},"modified":"2016-06-07T11:30:55","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T11:30:55","slug":"veep-attends-un-meeting-on-hivaids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/veep-attends-un-meeting-on-hivaids\/","title":{"rendered":"Veep attends UN meeting on HIV\/AIDS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice President Kwesi Beko Amissah\u2010Arthur is currently in New York for\u00a0United Nations High Level Meeting on ending HIV and AIDS.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, which will begin on June 8 to 10, 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters, will focus the world\u2019s attention on the importance of a fast-track approach to the HIV and AIDS response over the next five years. years.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amissah-Arthur is expected to address the gathering as well as co-chair a panel discussion with Mr. Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, former President of the Republic of Fiji on \u201cAIDS within the SDGs: leveraging the end of AIDS for social transformation and sustainable development\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a session on accelerating local pharmaceutical production in the ECOWAS sub-region and Africa as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting comes as a new report issued by UNAIDS shows that the number of people accessing antiretroviral medicines has more than doubled since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Ending AIDS by 2030 is an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goals, which United Nations Member States adopted unanimously in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The lessons learned in responding to HIV\/AIDS will play an instrumental role in the success of many of the Sustainable Development Goals, notably Sustainable Development Goal 3, good health and well-being, and the goals on gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment, reduced inequalities, global partnerships and just, peaceful and inclusive societies.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President is due to return home over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: citifmonline.com with additional files from GBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice President Kwesi Beko Amissah\u2010Arthur is currently in New York for\u00a0United Nations High Level Meeting on ending HIV and AIDS.
