{"id":219547,"date":"2016-06-04T08:00:03","date_gmt":"2016-06-04T08:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=219547"},"modified":"2016-06-04T08:00:03","modified_gmt":"2016-06-04T08:00:03","slug":"teacher-trainees-unhappy-paying-for-utility-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/06\/teacher-trainees-unhappy-paying-for-utility-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"Teacher trainees unhappy paying for utility bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), has registered its discontent with regards to principals who consistently extort monies from teacher trainees in the name of utility bills.<\/p>\n<p>A statement signed by Tagbor Sampson, the President TTAG, and copied\u00a0to the Ghana News Agency, said the Government had on countless platforms made it obvious that students of tertiary institutions, for that matter teacher trainees, should not be burdened\u00a0with the payment of utilities.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;UIYzE7EUXX2e4VBC5cbFYnDzTV9bujBb&#8221;]It said the position of government was affirmed again in a meeting at the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, between the Ministry of Education, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, VC Ghana, Ministry of Finance, the National Union of Ghana Students, Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students, the National Conference of Principals of Teacher Training Colleges, and the TTAG.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, therefore, respectfully appeal to the authorities of our tertiary institutions, especially, colleges of education, to desist from charging utility bills in the coming academic year (2016\/2017) since it is illegal and a violation of government&#8217;s directives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe again passionately appeal to principals to desist from harassing our people\u00a0over the payment of utilities and to also refund monies for those who have been compelled to pay,\u201d the statement said<\/p>\n<p>It called on all trainees to put in much effort in their academic work as they prepare\u00a0for the impending end of second semester examination.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), has registered its discontent with regards to principals who consistently extort monies from teacher trainees in the name of utility bills.
