Vegetable farmers in the Keta Municipality have described development projects carried out by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) as fruitless, since according to them, they do not economically benefit from them.

They say government has constructed some roads and infrastructural projects in the area but these have not empowered them financially.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KA5CLppLYryaKp6EVHCQC84k7QSFP4k6″]The Chairman of the Vegetable Farmers Association, Roland Tudzi, said farmers in Keta are yet to benefit from the numerous policies and programs by government to address challenges in the agriculture sector.

“Frankly speaking, Mr. President, your achievement in the road sector is meaningless to farmers if our occupation cannot guarantee the purchase of bicycle to ride on the roads with the high cost of energy which forms the basis for irrigated agriculture.”

“The schools under trees program, community school project and school of pharmacy – UHAS, sited at Keta is meaningless to us if we cannot pay for the enrollment of our children in these schools. Where is the justification if the average irrigated farmer pays GHC200.00 as NHIS levy or a month for electricity he consumes by way of irrigating his backyard farm and all he gets when he visits a health facility is Paracetamol and vitamin B-Complex tablets?” he queried.
