{"id":21783,"date":"2014-06-01T12:02:29","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T12:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=21783"},"modified":"2014-06-01T09:32:41","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T09:32:41","slug":"aburi-gardens-will-be-preserved-local-govt-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/06\/aburi-gardens-will-be-preserved-local-govt-ministry\/","title":{"rendered":"Aburi gardens will be preserved &#8211; Local Gov&#8217;t Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has pledged to preserve the ecology of the Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after a newspaper publication disclosed that the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Aburi area had given the go ahead for the cutting down of trees in the garden to make way for the construction of an administrative office for the newly created district.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum insisted, the Ministry will do everything possible to protect the garden.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cwe can\u2019t do away with the Aburi Gardens, it is a symbol of this country and something very important to the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Aburi Gardens was opened in March, 1890, and it covers 64 hectares of land.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of the most popular tourist sites in Ghana but in recent times, there have been low patronage of the garden due to poor maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Benjamin Epton Owusu\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has pledged to preserve the ecology of the Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region.
