{"id":217039,"date":"2016-05-25T11:54:59","date_gmt":"2016-05-25T11:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=217039"},"modified":"2016-05-25T11:54:59","modified_gmt":"2016-05-25T11:54:59","slug":"gifec-equips-security-services-to-fight-cyber-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/gifec-equips-security-services-to-fight-cyber-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"GIFEC equips security services to fight cyber crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr. Kwabena Akyeampong has told <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> that government is equipping the security services with electronic gadgets to help fight cyber crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Cyber crimes such SIM BOX fraud and hacking have become rampant in recent times.<\/p>\n<p>A recent collaboration between the Police CID and Subah Info Solutions led to five separate arrests.<\/p>\n<p>The operation also saved the country about 77 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> at the 10<sup>th<\/sup> celebration of\u00a0 GIFEC, Mr. Kwabena Akyeampong stated that the scheme dubbed \u201cSecurity Services Connectivity Project\u201d is \u00a0targeted at reducing cyber crimes as it helps transform \u00a0inmates through education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a programme with the security services to equip them in their duties. Basically all the security services including the military, prisons, police and BNI have all received equipment from government to help fight cyber crime,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the supply of the equipment has led to some positive results with the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) as it clamps down on SIM BOX fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe impact is felt on how these equipment we have provided them is helping to reduce crime.\u00a0 These institutions are really doing their best and they require all the support to fight ICT related crimes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Touching on how the programme has been extended to inmates of\u00a0 the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Akyeampong stated that prisoners in the country are given an opportunity to learn ICT while they serve their term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have given them \u00a0many equipment such that they have equipment to teach the prisoners ICT.
