A 43-year old woman lost her life at Pokuase in Accra, after a collapsed wall fell on her during Sunday\u2019s torrential rains.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Joseph Yamin, confirmed this to Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”rmeeCHCAvpHSfM46P9x8YmTFt9xAWJ18″]Although \u00a0Yamin was unable to state the actual cause of the incident, he believes the situation might have occurred because the victim was living in a flood -prone area.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is reported that a 43-year old woman lost her life because a wall fell on her. We are yet to confirm from the mortuary the exact cause of the incident but clearly the place the lady was living was flooded\u2026it is reported that she died as a result of a broken wall. That is the only casualty recorded as far as the weekend\u2019s rains are concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n Some parts of Accra were flooded after a downpour that lasted for almost an hour on Sunday.<\/p>\n The rains which affected low-lying areas such as Mallam, Awoshie, Santa Maria, Kwashiebu, Circle Odawna, and Kaneshie among others, left several people displaced and destroyed some properties.<\/p>\n Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Yamin said residents who were greatly affected by the floods will be given relief items.<\/p>\n
