Government has deferred the issuance of a seven year bond to a later date.<\/p>\n
The bond issue was originally scheduled to take place in May this year in the issuance calendar.<\/p>\n
It is unclear why the bond issue has been postponed and exactly when it will be issued but there are reports that government cancelled the bond to avoid having to pay a high yield.<\/p>\n
Government in March this year scrapped a five-year domestic bond worth 300 million cedis to avoid a higher yield and has delayed plans for a third Eurobond of up to $1 billion this year.<\/p>\n
A press statement however from the bank of Ghana to banks, primary dealers and the general public said the issuance has been deferred by the ministry of finance.<\/p>\n
The statement issued from the treasury department of the Bank of Ghana however added that a date for a new issuance would be announced in the near future.<\/p>\n
When issued it will be the third seven year bond issued in the country, last year the country issued two seven-year bonds in August and November to raise GHC100 million each.<\/p>\n
