Lawyers for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), today [Tuesday] sought to justify the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko in court, saying, Mr. Afoko deliberately frustrated the internal process to tackle petitions brought against him.<\/p>\n
The lawyers, who made this known during a cross examination of Mr. Afoko in the case, argued that the embattled Chairman deliberately submitted to the National Council a list of members for the\u00a0party’s\u00a0disciplinary committee, with only one woman despite the constitutional requirement of two women.<\/p>\n
Afoko is challenging his suspension in court.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”jJoginWfuFUlsxE6taeNV0I2qRtm7fL4″]But\u00a0Mr. Afoko denied the accusation in court, insisting that\u00a0the decision on the formation of the disciplinary committee was not solely taken by him but collectively with\u00a0the national council.<\/p>\n
Paul Afoko in 2015 filed the suit challenging his suspension as National Chairman of the NPP.<\/p>\n
In his suit, he argues that the action and processes leading to his suspension by some elements of the party were unconstitutional and a breach of natural justice.<\/p>\n
Mr. Afoko also raised issues with the capacity of one member of the disciplinary committee Gifty Kusi, who was part of the decision to suspend him.<\/p>\n
