<\/p>\nA fair aimed at grooming Ghana\u2019s future innovators had been held at Galaxy International School. The 12th Science Fair was held at the premises of the school\u2019s new ultra-modern Senior High School building located at Adjiringanor, East Legon, Accra.<\/p>\n
The fair was aimed at bringing to bear the need for all to be aware of the role science plays in our daily lives, and the comfort it brings.<\/p>\n
Pupils of the school between the ages of three and sixteen showcased various science experiments in physics, chemistry, biology, social sciences and the arts at the fair.\u00a0The one-day fair attracted students from other schools as well as parents who came to share in the joy of science.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”cpktlDQLQKqXjA2IbUXkExsXOVPY5QOj”]Opening the fair, the Managing Director of the school, Yusuf, Temizkan,\u00a0stated that \u201cLearning is not a spectator sport. Students do not learn much just sitting in classes listening to teachers, memorizing pre-packaged assignments, and spitting out answers.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They must talk about what they are learning, write reflectively about it, relate it to past experiences, and apply it to their daily lives, they must make what they learn part of themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aim of organizing this event among many others is to teach students to practice what they learn in theory in the classrooms so that they are able to use the knowledge gained to understand new concepts, make well-informed decisions and pursue interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

He thanked the Government of Ghana for supporting the school, as well as parents and teachers who made a decision to for quality education at Galaxy.<\/p>\n
He said the fair would be organized every year to enable students develop understanding from questions based on the knowledge they already have and the insight they wish to gain in future.<\/p>\n
The Director General for Education of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Jacob Kor, who graced the occasion, stated that students must always be given the opportunity to increase knowledge, stressing the need for the country not to be a consumer of science but also a producer.<\/p>\n

He added that knowledge does not end anywhere not even in death, hence the need for the country to take science much more seriously.<\/p>\n
He commended management of the school for striving towards excellence and quality education.<\/p>\n
Mr. Kor was taken to the various stands to witness what the young scientists had been working on in the course of the academic year. In all, there were about 70 stands displaying not only scientific projects but covered other areas such as Maths, Arts, French and ICT among others.<\/p>\n

Through the use of \u2018Thinkwave\u2019 software, students\u2019 results, performance and class attendance can be monitored by parents in the comfort of their homes. Apart from the classroom performance, the software is also used to report on the disciplined attitude of students.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a unique software which we use to communicate to parents the behaviour of their children and the software also registers their class attendance\u201d the Principal of the school, Mr. Hakan Karaman said.<\/p>\n Believing that \u201cthe way to educate people is to show real concern for every individual, not forgetting that every individual is a different world\u201d the school set up a merit and demerit behavioural watch to reward students on weekly and termly basis by point build-ups based on good behaviour. This is also accessible to parents so as to track the behavioural pattern of their children.<\/p>\n Scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n Galaxy also offers scholarships as part of its social responsibility to give opportunities to all and sundry by conducting exams for students from outside the school to write each year. There are different scholarship packages available in order to cover as many students as possible.
