The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) says Ghana has failed to enforce its laws on anti-corruption.

The comment follows President Mahama’s recent claims in the UK that his government has performed better than previous governments in fighting the canker.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Vg1X0WKepg8XKyMbuzNotn5f8TMDB1Ck”]The GII however believes government has failed to prosecute many public officials found to have engaged in corrupt activities.

Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Director of GII, Linda Ofori-Kwafo indicated that more needs to be done if the country wants to win the fight against corruption.

“We have not done very well… Just like in the past, so far as the enforcement and the punishment of corruption for it to be a deterrent to people is concerned. We have failed woefully as a nation, when it comes to that direction. Ghana has a good number of legislations that are necessary in fighting corruption…but when it comes to the enforcement of the law to actually help us to make some gains, Ghana is still not seen to be playing much and that is a fact that nobody can run away from…”

Mahama not fighting corruption enough

Anti corruption crusader, P.C Ofori Appiah also shares the same views with GII.

P.C Ofori Appiah has attributed the rising spate of corruption in the country to President Mahama’s inability to fight the canker effectively in his administration.

In an earlier interview with Citi News, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament indicated that per what he knows of the President, he is convinced that he is not corrupt.

He however intimated that the President had failed to translate his seemingly noble character traits to tackling corruption in his government.
