Ten years ago, Friday night meant getting together with your squad for another raucous night on the town. As soon as work was finished for the day, it was time to head round to your BFF\u2019s house, where you would both slip into your outfits, while drinking your first wine of the night.<\/p>\n
Then it was off to town to dance the night away!<\/p>\n
Ah, those were the days.<\/p>\n
Sadly, Friday night\u2019s are probably a lot different these days. Instead of finishing at 5 before getting your glad rags on, you work an extra hour for your boss because you\u2019ve nothing better to do.<\/p>\n
Your squad no longer exists because everyone is married with children, 2 cars and a mortgage.<\/p>\n
Maybe you call them up on the off-chance that they\u2019d love to recreate those heady bygone days and go to a club \u201cjust for the sake of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
But they turn you down because they either can\u2019t get a babysitter or they\u2019re addicted to green smoothies and don\u2019t drink anymore.<\/p>\n
What gives??!<\/p>\n
Not much if you\u2019re still single and need to have some fun.<\/p>\n
As such, Friday night\u2019s can quickly turn into periods of introspection. As you open a second bottle of wine and watch Bridget Jones\u2019 Diary for the fourth time that night, perhaps you might ask yourself while you\u2019re still single.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve got really high standards\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Having high standards is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, why should you settle for second best when you know you can do better?<\/p>\n But there is such a thing has having ridiculously high standards that few can aspire to.<\/p>\n With the exception of Brad Pitt, of course.<\/p>\n Ask yourself if the standards you have at the moment are realistic. Has anyone ever been able to measure up to them?<\/p>\n You don’t know what you want from life either\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n If you don\u2019t even know what you want from life yet, it\u2019s going to incredibly difficult to meet a man you want to share this purposeless life with.<\/p>\n Write down your goals. List your values.<\/p>\n Who are you and what do you want?<\/p>\n What do you want from a man?<\/p>\n You don’t know what you want from a relationship either\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n If you don\u2019t even know what you want from a relationship, how can you expect to attract anyone?<\/p>\n A few years back, I\u2019d just come out of a long-term relationship. A couple of months down the line, I knew that I wanted to date again, but I wasn\u2019t sure exactly what I wanted from a relationship.<\/p>\n Did I want a committed relationship, or did I want something casual?<\/p>\n I had no idea and this kept me single for a long time. I would message guys on dating sites but get scared when it came to the crunch. I was hesitant and the guys knew it \u2013 so they backed off and left me alone.<\/p>\n You\u2019re too negative\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n A friend of mine was at her wits end when she was getting no where on dating sites. I asked her how long she\u2019d been on there for.<\/p>\n \u201cA week,\u201d she said dismally.<\/p>\n A week?!<\/p>\n I was on dating sites for FIVE YEARS before I finally met the man of dreams.<\/p>\n Sometimes, we get too negative when we\u2019ve been single for two long.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one wants me. I may as well give up,\u201d we say with a sigh.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one replies to my messages. I\u2019m going to delete my profile.\u201d<\/p>\n Negativity will get you no where. Be positive and lift your head up high \u2013 you might like wha you see.<\/p>\n You Can\u2019t Get Your Ex Out Of Your Hair<\/p>\n You might think that you\u2019re over your ex, but perhaps you\u2019re really not.<\/p>\n Each time you get close to a new man, maybe you think of your ex. Maybe you compare the two of them, or maybe you know that no man is ever going to replace your old boo.<\/p>\n Who\u2019s going to live up to him?<\/p>\n You\u2019re chasing Mr. Wrong<\/strong><\/p>\n How many times have you dated Mr Right?<\/p>\n And how many times have you dated Mr Wrong?<\/p>\n A few more times, I\u2019ll bet!<\/p>\n If you keep falling into the same old trap of dating a charming, affable man who knows how to make the ladies jealous \u2013 even you \u2013 the problem is not the man. The problem is YOU.<\/p>\n Some guys are not made to be in a relationship for too long. Sure, he might be hot and he might be able to talk the talk, but if you sense that he\u2019s probably not going to stick around for too long, it\u2019s probably time to start lowering your sights and aiming for a guy who is loyal and devoted.<\/p>\n You can\u2019t always live on the edge and you can\u2019t change a man.<\/p>\n You\u2019re not listening<\/strong><\/p>\n Guys like to be listened to. The reason your friend\u2019s are doing so well in relationships and you\u2019re not might be down to the very simple fact that they know how to listen and you don\u2019t.<\/p>\n Listening means respecting the other person\u2019s opinion. It means devoting your entire attention to them, giving them space to air their opinions \u2013 and then responding appropriately.<\/p>\n Pay attention to your man\u2019s body language, as well as his energy, his jokes \u2013 as well as the things he doesn\u2019t say.<\/p>\n You\u2019ve got a type\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Not only have you got a type, but it\u2019s such a specific one that the chances of meeting a single man of this type are 5,000-1.<\/p>\n It\u2019s basically not going to happen unless you become more flexible.<\/p>\n You\u2019re in the wrong place\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n This is an interesting one. Sometimes, meeting the right man is not just about timing \u2013 it\u2019s also about location.<\/p>\n And maybe you\u2019re in the wrong place.<\/strong><\/p>\n For example, if you dig city slickers or hipsters but happen to live in a rural place, you might be finding it hard to meet guys for this very reason.<\/p>\n Packing your bags and chancing your arm in another city is a dicy prospect, but if you think you\u2019d have a better chance of meeting Prince Charming elsewhere, it\u2019s definitely worth considering.<\/p>\n Your job gives you everything you want\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n You might not realise it, but your job might be giving you everything you need right now.<\/p>\n It\u2019s giving you money, social interaction, security, a sense of self-worth and achievement and much more.<\/p>\n Can a man compete with your job?
